Art Bar is a place where the creatives of counter culture go to meet. The artists, photographers, philosophers, independent filmmakers, skaters, street artists, musicians, and offbeat eccentrics.
Art Bar is a quarterly, collectible, high quality print magazine and photo journal.
I’m the Art Director for the magazine and we just wrapped up our first issue. We will be in bookstores in July 2025 all over the country, including Barnes & Noble.
Hi-Fructose Magazine
Founded by artists, Attaboy and Annie Owens in 2005, Hi-Fructose focuses squarely on the art which transcends genre and trend.
I took their ancient site and brought it back to life. Migrated data from their old system and developed templates to make some broken old posts accessible.
They’ve amassed more than 10,000 articles over the last 12 years with approximately 25M views.
I’m glad I could help them manage and simplify their online processes. I’m redesigning their Shopify site at some point this year or next.
Simpson Strong Tie
Simpson Strong-Tie’s developers and HR didn’t have the bandwidth to design and develop an employee benefits website so I was asked to work with them both to get that done.
I collaborated with them on design in Figma and built the site in WordPress using Elementor so their non-technical HR people could update the site.
Oakland Marathon
The Marathon wanted a fresh, contemporary site for 2023 and I worked with their management company, Run Local, on design and direction, and built templates for them in WordPress.
I used the same basic direction as their partner pitch deck which I developed with them earlier in the year.
Symbio Robotics
Symbio brings advanced technologies + software to industrial automation.
Deep Learning, Distributed Systems and Control Theory—building the industry standard for software-defined manufacturing.
I worked at Symbio for a few years in various roles.
Oakland Art Murmur Visual Arts Guide
Moving people around Oakland to look at art.
I worked with OAM for about 8 years and this is the sixth (and my last) major redesign of this guide.
These tri-fold brochures are distributed throughout Oakland and available at all OAM venues. 100K are printed every year.
Land Club
Land Club is a California-based land development company created to connect people with nature through a scalable land ownership and membership model.
I’ve been working with them for more than a year helping get their branding, design, and digital together. Doing a lot of investor pointing work currently.
I’ve also been setting up Figma and Figjams so the architecture and design teams can plan and collaborate.
MolyWorks
MolyWorks is changing the way the world supplies by eliminating the reliance on traditional supply chains and the way manufacturing operates.
I worked with their marketing director to develop a new image for the company. One of the first things we needed was a package design system for their alloy powder containers. They are now branded, quickly identifiable, and color coded by alloy. They were using painter’s tape and Sharpie previously.
I developed their identity system, branding and will eventually work on the website and marketing inititives.
Rulo
Industrial equipment management, analytics and automation solutions for remote worksites.
I helped develop their visual design system and prototyped their website in Figma for their dev team.
University of California San Francisco Viral Hepatitis Center
I worked with a developer on the new site for the UCSF VHC. Working within the brand UCSF guidelines, we wanted to do something a little less cookie-cutter than their standard templates.
I also did UI/UX on the backend dashboards for patients, admins, and doctors.
Their websites are built using Drupal and, wow, that was no fun.
Rainbow Grocery
I’m currently working on a new update to their site I built about 5 years ago. Still in development.
Uptown Geometries / Public Art
Two 4’x 6′ laser-cut, naval brass panels for Signature Development Group in Oakland, CA.
The concept is kinda a loosely art-deco inspired, stylized map of the area around the Rasa building.
Big Sur Marathon Foundation
The work of the nonprofit Big Sur Marathon Foundation is made possible by the thousands of runners who come to Monterey County each year. From youth programs to community grants and scholarships, BSMF actively engages with our community.
I worked with Run Local on this project.
Les Blank Films
Les Blank (1935-2013) was an internationally renowned, independent filmmaker, whose poetic work offers intimate, idiosyncratic glimpses into the lives, culture, and music of the passionate people at the periphery of American society.Â
Although Les Blank passed away in 2013 his eldest son Harrod Blank is working to preserve his legacy by completing unfinished films, remastering deteriorating footage, and creating a film about his father’s fascinating life.Â
Ziran
Ziran is a sustainable silk line based on storytelling, purpose, and cultural heritage. By using xiang yun sha silk, Ziran is helping to preserve and protect an ancient tradition, while leading a new generation to live the Ziran way: natural, spontaneous, and free.
I helped revamp their website after a previous developer flaked on them. I was able to turn them around and meet their deadline for launch.
Ivy Hill Arts
Ivy Hill Arts is an emergent residency located in Oakland, CA. I’m on the team that is developing the program.
Affordable spaces where artists may live and create together are the foundation for experimentation and invention, as well as culture-shaping and movement-making.
Ivy Hill Arts is an interdisciplinary artist residency space designed with, by, and for artists based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Realfinity
I built two sites for Realfinity, this one and a mortgage site. I collaborated with their UI / UX team in Figma on design and developed in WordPress.
Geodesic Capital
I worked with Geodesic for a few months cleaning up their branding and developing ideas for presentations, pitch decks and digital assets.
The Compound Gallery 10th Anniversary
This design is a riff on dazzle camouflage. We wanted something that would be relatively simple to keep costs and execution time down.
I designed the mural so we could lay it out easily using a straightedge and a beam compass.
Painting mostly done by Indubitable Design.
Derek Weisberg
Derek is a Bay Area/NY artist. He works with clay.
This is the second version of his site.
Daniel “Attaboy” Siefert
Attaboy’s work has been seen in books, magazines, galleries, museums, television and many designer stores.
Atta is the co-founder of the critically acclaimed art magazine Hi-Fructose.
Rena Bransten Gallery
Founded in 1974, its artistic program includes both established and emerging artists whose work engages with contemporary social and cultural climates.
In addition to design and development, work was also done crawling, cleaning data and importing 20 years of exhibitions from their previous Expression Engine site.
Alibi Ale Works
Alibi is a brewery in Lake Tahoe, NV with three taphouses around the lake.
This WordPress site was built and launched in 10 days after their previous marketing contractors failed to deliver for many months. I completed their site before their deadline and on budget.
I worked from layouts provided by Alibi’s Art Director.
Rainbow Grocery
For over 40 years, Rainbow Grocery Cooperative has provided affordable vegetarian food products which have minimal negative impact both ecologically and socially; buying goods from local organic farmers and vendors whenever possible.
Their previous site was a hodgepodge of content and function and provided a bloated, outdated site that was increasingly impossible to manage. I worked to simplify the scope of the site, and to provide a useful tool for them to update their site and create a useful marketing platform for future initiatives.

Annual Oakland Indie Awards
I was art director and handled design and branding for the annual Indie Awards in Oakland, CA. from 2015-2018.
The event was an initiative of Beneficial State Bank and it’s Foundation, both founded by Tom Steyer, to recognize local business impacting the community in Oakland.
I created a new logo, identity and branding system after being approached by their event director.
Robert Brady
Robert Brady is an artist based in Berkeley, CA. His works can be found in permanent collections in various galleries and museums such as The Smithsonian (Renwick), The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, as well as others in private collections, too numerous to mention.

Central Market Community Benefit District
A non-profit, community-based organization that provides programs and services to improve the quality of life experienced in the Central Market neighborhood of San Francisco.
Johansson Projects
One of the most fascinating contemporary art galleries in Oakland.
Exhibitions here are typically displayed and organized in inventive, out of the box ways so as to provide visitors with unparalleled experiences that cannot be found anywhere else in the Bay Area.
Oakland Art Murmur Website
I worked for OAM for more than 8 years going through about 4 iterations of the website.
Symbio Robotics Site Specific Installation
The truncated conical shapes were rendered in 3D and using custom software we were able to generate exploded files of each of the 150 unique shapes.
We had most of them laser cut with perforated edges so we could fold and glue them into shape. We used a water jet to cut the largest (~5′) cones and then constructed them by hand with metal supports and metal tape.
We spray painted them various shades of pink and red then attached them to the ceiling. We were going for a sort of stalactite filled cave.
This was a collaboration with Josh Lopez Binder.
Nielsen Arts
Nielsen Arts is a family owned full service fine art framing shop. They also showcase local artists in regular gallery exhibitions.
Nielsen had difficulty finding a consistent message and tone with their marketing. I cleaned up their identity and developed a system for them to keep all their branding in line while at the same time, letting in some creative license for their exhibitions.
I design all their postcards and they let me do just about whatever I want 🙂
